Book Review for:
Highly Sensitive and The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity

It is most difficult to write about these books separately. The plethora of insightful messages span the pages of both and indeed are constituent parts of each other. We understand that some people are sensitive, more so that is than others. The parents, teachers, and others usually notice those who are sensitive or have the inborn need to carry burdens and try to help. Up until now you practically had to have a degree in Psychology and many years experience to even begin to understand these wonderfully gifted people. More importantly understanding not just the social interaction we see but truly having the ability to know why and how they operate.
Once this foundation is established, by the author, we gain more and more understanding and appreciation for the super sensitive. We start to see the diversity of things they carry with them like a mule carrying a heavy load. But we also are given the recipe for how to grow out of this stage of development through sound scriptural citations; citations that open the path for sharing the menagerie of muddle and worry with someone who can take the burden away. We also start to understand that whether sensitive or not being a one-person-show is detrimental to self as well as others. Unquestionably we always underestimate the impact we have on the lives of others. That is one of the key points that rang through for me as I continued to read. It is also important to realize that sensitivity is not a burden but a gift if understood and used correctly. Again, this is a great life lesson for everyone. God gave diverse gifts to select people in the world. God always has a reason for his actions and that certainly includes the folks who are gifted. One other lesson was glaring at me as I read through the remainder of the book - We have choices, we make choices, and how we decide to use the gift we are given is one of those decisions. The vein of gold that runs through these two books provide the riches one needs to not only cope but to be proactive and aware of one's strengths and weaknesses; to permit true strength and wisdom to come from God and to rely on him.
The extraordinary teaching within the pages of these books should be shared with as many as possible. It exemplifies the kind and type of thinking necessary for all Christians who live up to their namesake. Additionally, when applied to the study of other disciplines, the axioms learned within these pages are a template for thought and opening real communications with God. I can no longer read material the way I did before this life changing book - a book that identifies the mystery and coaches one to the understanding and utilization of a precious gift. Far from dry and methodical, these books open doorways to self understanding and the ability to live without fear, without burnout, and without the dismal existence a burden-bearer knows. Read, think, apply, and have a changed life - one that is both fruitful and loving.
